Founded in 1896, Saint Paul’s Catholic School is now located on 54 Eastern Ave, Barton, VT. Enrollment for the 2016-17 school year is on the rise with 79 students. Students from all faiths are encouraged to attend our Prek thru 8th grades. Our staff is dedicated with a collective 250 years of experience. Many of our students score well above grade level equivalence on the standardized test called Terra Nova upon graduation. With our community service requirement for graduation, students are encouraged to fulfill our mission:
“Saint Paul’s Catholic School instills Christian values in its students and a desire to make a positive difference in the world”.
Our parents are also asked volunteer 5 hours a month to help the school in fundraising and works of service to better the school in whatever talents they have to share. All families are member of our parent group called SPPA (Saint Paul’s Parents Association). Our SPPA helps to fundraise over $30,000 every year to offset the operational costs to run the school. Last year 65 families logged in more than 4000 hours of community service.
Saint Paul’s Catholic School was accredited by the commission of New England Accreditation of Schools and Colleges in 2010. We are in constant review for this process and are in the final phase for the reaccreditation process due in 2018.
In 2016, our Prek program servicing ages 3 and 4, was recognized by the CDC as a program with 3 STARS. We are very proud of this accomplishment. Our program is limited to ten students and is eligible for state subsidy based on a sliding scale.
In 2015, our food service qualified for the National School Lunch Program. We now offer breakfast every day and hot lunch 3 days a week. Our kitchen staff is covered by volunteers. The food portions and nutritional values are recorded on a daily process and reported back to the state monthly. Families are encouraged to enroll in the free and reduced lunch program to see if they qualify. 36% of our current families are eligible. This is a very important number for the office in grant writing to prove our need.
